EditKhan Jahan Ali mosque also known as the “Nine Dome Mosque” is situated in the mosque city of Bangladesh - Bagerhat. This historic mosque was built during the governorship of Khan Jahan Ali in the 15th century. Bengal Sultanate reign was over power at that time. The mosque is also situated very close to Khan Jahan Ali’s tomb (less than half a km). The decoration, wrought in terracotta, is now confined to the archways, mihrabs, corner towers and cornices.

There’s a takur dighi tank in Bagerhat and the Khan Jahan Ali mosque is situated to the west of it. The mosque’s western wall conventionally faces west towards Mecca. The mosque’s interior is divided into three aisles and three bays by two rows of stone pillars. This created nine independent square bays. And each of the domes are covered by an inverted cup-shaped dome. The architecture of the mosque is just inspiring. It's not neatly built. The phase of the transition for each of the domes is achieved by traditional Bengali pendentives.

The mosque is just elegant in a word! Even the mihrabs of the mosque are very richly decorated. The central mihrab arch has flower motifs crafted in it. The mosque is stylistically dated to the time of Khan Jahan Ali. I loved visiting the mosque with my family and would definitely visit again if I get the chance to.
