savandurga hills history
The Savandurga hills were home to a medieval community around 2000 years ago. Recently, megalithic burial urns with bones, copper coins, and terracotta pots were discovered at the site. Samantha Raya, an official in the Vijayanagar Empire, built this fort in 1543, according to the Imperial Gazetteer of India. The fort and the Magadi district were acquired by the chief of Bangalore in 1570. The region functioned as a supplementary headquarters for the Magadi monarchs, particularly Kempegowda.
