In order to explore and have a look into the Buddhist culture of Nepal, Khawalung Tashi Choeling Monastery in Kathmandu is an excellent choice. The monastery was founded by Vajra Master Jigme Dorje Rinpoche. It was inaugurated in 2005. The objective of this monastery is to preserve and uphold general teachings of Buddhism. The monastery provides teaching of religious education to young monks who come from remote region of Nepal and Tibet. The monastery is open for tourists from morning to evening. Entry is free for all tourists. The monks are known for their generous and friendly behaviour.

The area of monastery is quiet and serene with great views of mountains. The tourists who are keen to experience and learn about the local Buddhist culture, as well as know more about the lives of monks, this trip to the monastery can be an incredible opportunity for them. There are many beautiful paintings and wall hangings that represents Nepalese and Tibetan heritage. Tourists can stay inside the monastery. There are shared lavatories and showers,the monastery provides three common meals a day along with tea. The monastery is an ideal place for spending a few quiet days away from the busy metropolis of Kathmandu .

The monastery is only 10 minutes walking distance from one of the popular tourist attractions,Boudhanath Stupa. This is one of the largest stupas in the world and is a UNESCO World Heritage site,and among the most popular tourist magnet in Kathmandu. There are two other significant monasteries nearby,Kopan monastery and Shechen monastery. Kopan monastery is open for tourists only in Saturday. Shechen monastery is known for several spiritual events organized by the monks throughout the year.
