There are various attractions close to the park. Eugene T. Mahoney State Park, Louisville State Recreation Area, the Ak-Sar-Ben Aquarium and Schramm Park, the Strategic Air and Space Museum, Lee G. Simmons Conservation Park, Quarry Oaks Golf Club, and Iron Horse Golf Club are all nearby attractions.
EditOn August 13, 1982, the park was formed by combining three formerly separate areas: Harriet Harding Campfire Girls Camp, Camp Esther K. Newman, and a 104-acre wooded tract (42 ha). [4] Old cottages from previous campgrounds are still in use.

Jenny Newman Lake offers fishing opportunities to children under the age of 16 and their adult supervisors. Paddleboats are available for rent. There is a visitor center, an arts and crafts center, picnic spots, a ballfield, tent camping, tepees, and cabins in the park. The Roger G. Sykes Outdoor Heritage Complex has a rifle, trap, and archery shooting range.
