Location of Nijhum Dwip Beach
It is situated in Noakhali District in Bangladesh. Once it was called as Char Osman. This virgin new island of Nijhum Dwip raised on the estuary of the great Meghna channel in the mouth of The Bay of Bengal. The geographical location has been identified just 2 kilometers south west of Hatia under Noakhali district.
Hatiya is the closest “major” town to Nijhum Dwip, accessible by bus (for most of the way) and launch from Dhaka. Though buses are slightly faster, launches are smoother, cheaper, and more pleasurable.
During winter, thousands of migratory birds flock in to island. The fishermen use the airy and sunny land as an ideal place for drying their catches from the sea. Sometimes many of them also construct straw huts on the island as seasonal residences.
Initially Nijhum Dwip or Nijhum Island was known as Char Osman, after the name of a brave settler Osman who established the first settlement with his buffalo & cattle. Later the government’s high officials have changed that name. But still in documents, the island is known as Char Osman. This island is an ideal place for tourists, especially during the winter.
