EditTara Masjid (Tara Masjid in Bengali) in Dhaka was built in the first half of the nineteenth century, with a huge dome in the center and two smaller ones on either side. Over time, additions were added and the inside was ornamented, which drew criticism for subverting the architectural sensitivities of the Mughal architecture.
EditThe mosque is presently one of the rare remaining instances of a Chinitikri-style mosaic-decorated architectural construction. The Chinitikri blue star design, which gives the monument its popular moniker, Star Mosque, is particularly significant. Hundreds of blue-colored stars cover the white marble domes, and the star motif is repeated in the mosaics of flowers and rosettes found on the mosque's façade and interior.
