What Trisha saying about this place:
Entering Shalbon Bihar, we felt like we have come to a modern civilization which had a rise thousands years ago. The cells were telling stories of the ancient times. There's a flower garden in the front and greenery everywhere accept the ruins. The ruins were faded and bricky.

EditShalban Bihar is an archaeological site in Mainamati, Cumilla, Bangladesh. The ruins are in the middle of the Lalmai hills ridge, and these are of 7th-century Paharpur-style Buddhist viharas with 115 cells for monks. It operated through the 12th century.
EditBoth train and bus can be used to go from Comilla to Dhaka. From Dhaka's Kamlapur Railway station you can board Mohanagar Godhuli, Upokul Express, Paharika Express, and Trina Provuti train to come to Comilla. And for the bus route, you can board AC / Non AC buses by Royal Coach, Asia Aircon, BRTC, Prince, Asia Line, Trisha Paribahan from Dhaka's Sayedabad or Kamlapur bus stand.
EditAbout eight kilometres west of Comilla town, lies a range of low hills known as the Mainamati-Lalmai range which is dotted with more than 50 ancient Buddhist settlements dating from the 8th to the 12th centuries. Almost at middle is the Salvan Vihara of 115 cells built around a spacious courtyard with a cruciform temple in the centre. About 5 kilometres north of Shalvan Vihara is Kutila Mura, which is a picturesque relic of a unique Buddhist establishment.
EditDeep diggings have revealed four repair and rebuilding phases in the monastery, the earliest corresponding to period III of the cruciform central shrine. No monastery remains corresponding to period I and II (7th century AD) has yet been found. Some scanty and ill-defined remains below the present structure may suggest their existence, probably of smaller size. During the next two phases, new floors and thresholds were built on top of earlier remains.
EditShalbon bihar is a Pahar style excavation site holding a sign of history and ancient culture. This ruin shows us that even the people of 7th century was this much civilized. We liked the place a lot as it gave us historical knowledge about ancient people.

I went there with my friends via an auto which cost 20 tk per person from the center of Cumilla. We had to pay a minimum entry fee at the gate. We loved the ancient vibe there and took a lot of aesthetic photographs. The place was totally clean and well maintained even if it is a vast one.

This place is a ruin of ancient monastery of the 7th century. So antiquity is seen through all over the place. There are long pathways leading to the main center from the entry gate and a garden in a vast open space. We couldn’t see all the cells as the sun was on full form there to spread heat. We just visited some of the cells.
